كتب بهاء الدين نوري مذكراته هذه وأنجزها في غضون عشرة أشهر من عام 1991، معتمداً بالدرجة الأساسية على الذاكرة إذ لم تسمح له ظروف حياته السابقة الصعبة بتدوين يومياته والاحتفاظ بها. وسيجد القارئ بأن هذا الكتاب يتناول، بالدرجة الأساسية، شؤون الحزب والسياسة وذوي العلاقة من الناس، غير أن صاحب المذكرات لم يقتصر على تناول هذه الأحداث وحدها، بل هو تطرق كذلك إلى سائر الأحداث الملفتة للانتباه، لأنه ومع انشغالاته الحزبية كان يعيش حياته الطبيعية ومع الناس في هذا المجتمع. وقد كان أميناً بسرد الأحداث إذ أنه لم يتعمد التغبير والتشويه. أما فيما يتعلق بالتعليق على الأحداث، حيث أيد وأدان وانتقد واستحسن مواقف وتصرفات، أفراداً ومنظمات... فإن ذلك ما يتحمل مسؤوليته كرأي شخصي أبداه دون إضمار الحقد على أحد ممن زاملهم في العمل واختلف معهم حول العديد من الأمور. وبهاء الدين نوري يكتب هذه المذكرات وعمره الحزبي-السياسي يقترب من نصف قرن، كرسه كله للنضال في سبيل أهداف آمن بها، وكان لا مناص له، وأثناء كتابته مذكراته كرجل ارتبط مصيره بمصير الحركة الشيوعية في العراق وخارجه، أن يتطرف ببعض الكلمات إلى الأحداث العاصفة، التي انتهت بانهيار أنظمة الحكم التي كان على رأسها الشيوعيون في البلدان الأوروبية وفي الاتحاد السوفييتي نفسه وبدخول الحركة الشيوعية العالمية كلها في نكسة حقيقية عميقة.
