إن المتفحص للساحة الإسلامية يرى أن معظم الجماعات الإسلامية بنت مخططاتها في التغيير على المبدأ الديمقراطي، فهي إما ضالعة فيه وإما مناضلة لأجله، وكم من وعود معلنة كانت قد قدمتها بعض الجماعات الإسلامية بأنها في حال هيمنتها على الحكم ستجعله ديمقراطياً، وأن مجلسها النيابي ستتمثل فيه كافة الطوائف، وأنها ستطلق حرية الأحزاب والتعبير عن كافة الآراء والاتجاهات مع عدم التعرض لها حال إعلانها ولا حال الدعوة إليها. وقد انبرى عدد من الكتاب الإسلاميين للدفاع عن هذا المنهج الديمقراطي، وسارع عدد من الدعاة المعروفين إلى ترشيح أنفسهم عند أول بادرة سنحت لهم في ذلك، وقامت المجلات الإسلامية -ولا تزال- بتغطية إعلامية مكثفة لهذا المنهج، فدبجت المقالات وعقدت المقابلات وأجرت الحوارات، ورغم السقوط العملي لهذا المنهج وثبوت إفلاسه في تقديم أي خدمة معتبرة لهذا الدين ودعاته فإن هذا السقوط ما زاد أصحاب الديمقراطية إلا شدة في الدفاع عنها وحماساً متأججاً للدعوة إليها، بل إن أكثر أفراد هذه الجماعات سلكوا مسلك قياداتهم في هذا الطريق، من باب أن أمر القيادة ملزم، أو من باب الاقتناع السطحي الذي لم يغر إلى الأعماق ولم ينفذ إلى صلب القضية.
