السرديات نظرية تبحث في النصوص السردية بغرض دراسة طبيعة، وشكل، ووظيفة تلك النصوص، بغض النظر عن الوسائط التي تقدم من خلالها، والفترة الزمنية التي كتبت فيها. وفي هذا الكتاب يقوم الباحث بخطوتين مرتبطتين تكملان بعضهما بعضاً: الأولى: فحص الجوانب المشتركة بين جميع النصوص السردية سواء كانت هذه الجوانب على مستوى الحكاية أو مستوى الخطاب. والثانية: الكشف عن المحددات التي تجعل نصاً سردياً معيناً يختلف عن غيره من النصوص السردية. ومن هنا انقسم الكتاب إلى قسمين متداخلين: الأول: السرديات: مقدمة نظرية، والثاني: السرديات: مقترنات تطبيقية. في القسم الأول نقرأ الإطار النظري للسرديات، وفي القسم الثاني: نقرأ نصوصاً قديمة وحديثة من خلال مقترب سردي. تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب من كونه محاولة جادة تقدم إطاراً نظرياً شاملاً لمجمل ما تم تحقيقه في نظرية السرد المعاصرة، وهو في هذه المحاولة يهدف إلى أن يسد ثغرة نظرية في المكتبة السردية العربية، لأن كل الكتابات التي قرأتها تمثل مقاربات تطبيقية، تطبق بعض مقولات نظرية السرد على بعض النصوص السردية العربية.
