نبذة النيل والفرات: القضاء: هو الحكم، وهو القرار النهائي لسلطة قضائية تفصل به نزاعا رفع إليها. والقضاء هو عمل القاضي. ورجال القضاء هي الهيئة التي يوكل إليها بحث الخصومات للفصل بها طبقا للقانون، أما القاضي فهو من يحكم بين الناس بتعاليم الشرع، أو بقوانين أخرى، والقاطع للأمور المحكم لها، أما القضية: فهي مسألة يتنازع فيها وتعرض على القاضي أو القضاة للبحث والفصل. وقد اشتهر رجال كثيرون إبان عهد الجاهلية وعهد الإسلام بالقضاء، وذاع صيتهم، ومن أشهر هؤلاء الإمام علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه، وفيه يقول رسولنا الكريم: "أقضى أمتي علي بن أبي طالب". بهذا الإطار جاء هذا الكتاب الذي بين يدي القارئ والذي هو واحد من موسوعة روائع الأدب العربي وهو يجمع بين طياته أمثال وحكم وأشعار وقصص عن القضاء والقضاة عند العرب، وهو بشكل عام مقسم إلى عدة أبواب رئيسية هي: القضاء في القرآن الكريم. القضاء والقضاة في أحاديث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، القضاء والقضاة في الشعر العربي، حكم وأقوال في القضاء والقضاة، قصص وعبر من تاريخ العرب، وبالرجوع إلى هذا الباب نجد أنه قد ضم (68) قصة فيها من العبرة والفائدة والنصيحة ما يكفي القارئ من العظة.
