تعمل "كارين هاريس" مديرة تجارية بمحلات "سبنسر" الكبرى وسبق لها الزواج وهي في سن صغيرة أنجبت طفلاً يعاني بعد الإعاقة الذهنية ولم ينجح زواجها فكرست كل حياتها لابنها وحاولت-بكل ما في طاقتها-أن تعالج ابنها حتى يلحق اقرانه بما تطلب منها جهداً مضاعفاً في عملها حتى تحصل على المال الكافي لتحقيق هدفها في توفير تعليم خاص لابنها. تعودت محلات "سبنسر" الكبرى إقامة أسبوع خاص بمناسبة أعياد الكريسماس والميلاد حيث يقوم شخص من إحدى وكالات التمثيل بدور "بابا نويل" ويظل يوم الافتتاح يداعب الأطفال ويعطيهم الهدايا إلا أنه في هذا العام مرض "بابا نويل" المتوقع مما وضع "كارينط في موقف حرج إلا أن سكرتيرتها تحضر لها شاباً قوياً ورياضياً ومليحاً للقيام بهذا الدور وإن كان مظهره لا يدل على صلاحيته لهذه الدور إلا أن "كارين" كانت مضطرة إلى قبوله. تم التجربة بنجاح خاصة وأن ابنها تعلق بشدة بـ"بابا نويل" وتحدث مفاجآت متوالية.
