في هذا العمل سنرافق "جوليان داي" الشاب الصغير ابن الحادية والعشرون عاماً في رحلته لإكتشاف العالم الجديد في أمريكا. بعد وفاة والديه بدا جوليان حزيناً ومعزولاً، ولاحت له فكرة الهجرة والسفر. في هذه الأثناء رست السفينة "مري جونس" قيالته على شواطئ فرجينيا، وبدا أن رجلاً يسأل عنه لمساعدته إنه "سبراغ" من مكتب السيد "وتيسن" في "وليمسبورغ" وهنا تنشأ صداقة حميمة بين الرجل والشاب فيقرر الهجرة معه إلى البلاد الجديدة. ومن خلال رحلة الشاب إلى أمريكا يتحدث الراوي عن التاريخ السياسي لأمريكا منذ انتصارها على الأسبَان في عهد الملكة "إليزابيت" مروراً بجورج واشنطن ورؤوساء آخرون. تهدف الرواية إلى تعريف الناشئة بتاريخ أمريكا، والمعارك التي خاضتها ضد الإسبان وما رافق ذلك من أحداث مصيرية جعلت منها فيما بعد المنتصر الوحيد في العالم بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية.. كذلك تهدف الرواية إلى تعميق مفهوم الصداقة، والحب، والإخلاص في نفوس الأبناء، وهي حالات مرَ بها بطل الرواية منها ما هو مشوق ومنها ما هو حزين سنعرفه إذا ما قررنا قراءة الرواية...
