ها أنت أيتها النفس الحقيرة اليوم ستذلين على رؤوس الأشهاد وستسقط منزلتك بين الأقران والمعارف، ولن ينفعك التبجح بالرئاسة في العلم أو الانتساب إلى سلالة نبيلة أو مباركة، ولا المكانة الشرفية بين العائلات الكبيرة في تطوان ولا غيرها ولن يجديك ذلك الإحساس الكاذب الذي يغمرك حين يتلقفك البسطاء في الأسواق والأزقة بتقبيل الأيدي والتساقط عليك للتبرك بجسد هذا العبد الحقير الذي تسكنينه وإلى الهلاك تقودينه. فلا رئاسة بعد اليوم، ولا ريادة ولا حظوة ولا سطوة ولا جاه ولا نسب ولا مكانة ولا عز ولا فخامة إلا بقتلك وإذلالك أمام الخاص والعام وكل من كان يعظمك من الأصحاب والإخوان. اليوم يوم ذلك والذل والفقر، لو كنت تفقهين، بابان عظيمان للدخول على الله والوصول إلى حضرته، فأنا مثل الجيلاني أتيت الأبواب كلها فوجدت الزحام فأتيت باب الذل والفقر فوجدته خاليا فدخلت وها أنا أناديك: يا نفس هلمي.
