الشاعر الذي نعرض له-أبو بكر يحيى بن مجبر-يكاد يكون مجهولاً إلا من قلة قليلة من المتخصصين في الأدب الأندلسي، إذ طوى الزمان اسمه في غمار النسيان، وعاث على ديوانه فتبددت جميع نسخه، ولم يعرف عنه إلا شذرات مبعثرة هنا وهناك، إلا حفنة من المعلومات الضئيلة وكثرة منها معاد ومنسوخ، وهذا شأن أديب كان يوصف بأنه شاعر الأندلس والمغرب في عصره، أي في القرن السادس الهجري، وكانت له صلات وثيقة بخلفاء وملوك ونبهاء ذلك الزمان. وفي هذا الكتاب سعى الباحث إلى تقديم لوحات موجزة ولكنها وافية للعصر والأدبية وللشاعر، وموضوعاته وفنه، كما جمع وحقق كل ما عثر عليه من شعر منسوب له.
