نبذة النيل والفرات: هذه صفحات نادرة الأهمية يتحدث فيها المؤلف ابن الغملاس عن بعض الأدوار والظروف التي مرت على البصرة مع سرد أسماء الولاة والمتسلمين الذين حكموها أو تغلبوا عليها خلال حقبة لا تزال أحداثها غير مدونة التفاصيل. ويظهر من بعض الملاحظات أن مؤلف الكتاب من رجالات أسرة الغملاس المعروفة في الزبير بضربها في آفاق العلم والتأليف.. وقد كان المؤلف قد تناول أسماء جميع ولاة البصرة منذ تمصيرها في عهد عمر بن الخطاب من سنة 14 حتى سنة 1333هـ. إن النسخة المخطوطة هي من مقتنيات الأستاذ البحاثة محمد أحمد المحامي وإن مكتبته أشهر من أن تعرف في البصرة حيث تضم مختلف المصادر العلمية المخطوطة والمطبوعة ومنها نقلت فصول هذا البحث وأعدد للنشر بمقتضى خطة في البحث عن المصادر التاريخية الخاصة بالبصرة.
