يضم هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه مجموعة دراسات عن التراث الشعبي، موزعة على قسمين، ضم الأول عدة دراسات عن الحكاية الشعبية، وضم القسم الثاني دراسات عن عدة أنواع من التراث الشعبي، مثل خيال الظل والعلاج الخرافي وعادات تربية الأطفال وأغنيات ترقيص الأطفال، وتم وضع مدخل للقسمين يعرف التراث الشعبي ويؤكد أهميته. ومما لا شك فيه أن في التراث الشعبي أشكالاً أخرى كثيرة، وما يسعى إليه هذا الكتاب هو تقديم أمثلة، ولا يدعي الحصر ولا الاستقصاء، والأمثلة في هذا الكتاب مجموعة من أحاديث الناس وأقوالهم، ومقتبسة من عاداتهم وتقاليدهم في أماكن شتى، ومواضع مختلفة من سورية، ولا سيما مدنية حلب، وقد تم عرض الأمثلة بدقة وأمانة كما سمعت أو شوهدت، من غير تعديل ولا تحوير ولا تغيير، ولكن أداءها تم في معظم الحالات باللغة العربية الفصيحة، إلا في بعض الحالات حيث تكون اللهجة المحكية ضرورية. وما يطمح إليه هذا الكتاب هو التعريف بتلك الأشكال من التراث الشعبي والحفز إلى استقصائها والبحث عن أمثالها وجمعها، وإقامة دراسات عليها، كما يطمح أيضاً إلى منح القارئ بعض المتعة، وإذا حقق شيئاً من هذا فهو حسبه. كتاب ممتع، يقدم دراسات تحليلية للحكاية الشعبية، مع بعض النماذج منها، وهي الحكايات التي كانت ترويها الجدات للأحفاد، وتكشف الدراسة عما فيها من دلالات نفسية واجتماعية وثقافية، فإذا هي صورة عن المجتمع والحياة، وإذا هي مدهشة وغريبة بما فيها من عجائب وما يكون بين بعضها وبعضها الآخر من تشابه على الرغم من بعد الأقطار واختلاف اللغات. كما يقدم الكتاب بعض الأشكال من العادات الشعبية التي كادت تنسى، فيحفظها للذكرى والتاريخ، كعادات تربية الأطفال وأغنيات الأمهات لهم، وإذا هو تراث غني، ممتع ومشوق، يحقق التواصل بين الأجيال، وهو جدير بالحفظ والتدوين، وجدير بدراسات تكشف ما فيه من غنى الدلالات.
