الإعلام العالمي، أياً كان مضمونه، نشأ في سياق تاريخي اجتماعي سياسي محدد تمثل بالثورة الصناعية وما رافقها من تشكل رأسمالتي فكانت الاختراعات والتكنولوجيا والصناعات المستجدة والمتجددة مدعاة قفزات نحو عالمية الإعلام بدءاً من وكالة الأنباء المرافقة لاختراع التلغراف إلى الإذاعة المرافقة لاختراع اللاسكلي وصناعته وصولاً إلى البثّ الفضائي المرافق للأقمار الصناعية والكومبيوتر. ولا ينفصل طابع هذا الإعلام ومضمونه ومن ثم عالميته عن السياق التاريخي لنشأته ولتطوره الأمر الذي يثير جملة أسئلة قد تساعد على فهم هذا العالمية وتتناول مرسلي هذه الرسالة وطريقة عملهم ومضمونها، ورسائل إيصالها. وهي بعض الأسئلة المثارة حول هذا الإعلام ويمكن أن يضاف إليها الكثير حول النتائج المترتبة على وجوده وعمله فضلاً عن الحقل المعرفي الذي يعمل خلاله. وسيحاول هذا البحث الإجابة عن بعض هذه الأسئلة التي تتمحور حول سؤال مركزي: إلى أي مدى يشكل الإعلام العالمي الانتشار، راهناً، إعلامياً دولياً وكونياً. وستدور نقاط البحث حول العناوين التالية: معنى الإعلام العالمين أولاً، والمؤسسات المشرفة عليه، والمرتبطة به ثانياً، وطريقة عمله ثالثاً، والمحاورات البارزة لتقويم عمله، والقضايا المثارة حوله رابعاً، وتساؤلات حول مستقبله خامساً. إنها محاولة تبغي إثارة النقاش حول عالمية هذا الإعلام الذي يشكل وعي العالم لنفسه ويدعي القيمون عليه أو الناطقون باسمهم أنه الإعلام العالمي.
