نعمت النوبة لقرون طويلة بالاستقرار والهدوء حتى نهاية القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي عندما شيد الإنجليز خزان أسوان وأغرقت مياهه عدداً من القرى والنجوع النوبية ومن أهلها من هاجر ومنهم من تمسك بالحياة على ضفاف النيل وبنوا لهم بيوتاً جديدة في مستويات أعلى. ولم يكد يمر عقد من الزمان حتى كان الطوفان الثاني بعد تعلية الخزان الأولى 1912م ثم الثالث بعد التعلية الثانية 1933م وفي كل مرة كانت تغرق قرى ونجوع ويهاجر عدد من أهلها. وبعد هذا العام كانت النوبة تقسم إلى النوبة الكنزية في الشمال والنوبة الفاديجا في الجنوب ويشمل كل منها عدداً من العموديات التي تشمل بدورها عدداً من القرى والنجوع وكان يفصل بين الدزئين عدد من قرى القبائل العربية المعروفة بعرب العقيلات. مر على الطوفان الثالث أكثر من عقدين من الزمان وبدأ الحديث عن بناء السد العالي.. وفي تلك الفترة وقعت أحداث هذه الرواية.. الخيالية.
