تعتبر حرية الإنسان في التعبير عن الرأي والفكر، وحرية الصحافة التي تنشر هذا الرأي وتفسره وتدافع عنه، من أهم المؤشرات الدالة على حدوث التحول الديموقراطي، ولذلك فإن هدف الدراسة هو إثارة عدد من التساؤلات حول تأثير التحولات السياسية في حرية الصحافة في الأردن والإجابة عنها. وأهم هذه التساؤلات: 1. ما العوامل التي دفعت نحو التحول الديموقراطي في الأردن؟ وما مدى التقدم الذي وصل إليه هذا التحول في الفترة (1989-1998)؟ 2. إلى أي مدى تحققت الحرية الصحفية في ظل التحول الديموقراطي؟ وما أبرز الضمانات القانونية والتشريعية لتحقيق حرية الصحافة؟ 3. ما أبرز التطورات التي شهدها العمل الصحفي خلال مرحلة التحول الديمقراطي في الأردن؟ وما العقبات التي تحول دون استفادة هذه الصحافة من هامش الحرية المتاح في ظل هذا التحول؟
