العلاقة بين السياسة والتاريخ ثابتة وقد سيطر المنهج التاريخي على الدراسات السياسية عهوداً طويلة من الزمن ولم يتراجع هذا الدور إلا في مطلع القرن العشرين بشكل لافت للانتباه في عقد العشرينات منه حينما بدأت المدرسة السلوكية قواعد التفسير السلوكي للظواهر إلا أن المنهج التاريخي ما زال يحظى بمكانة ضمن مناهج الدراسات السياسية ومع ذلك فإنني أرى أن التاريخ سوف يظل عنصراً للتحليل السياسي لكونه يعد مصدراً لتزويد العلماء السياسيين بالأدلة المثبتة أو المنفية لمنطوق النظرية.
وعلى هذا فإن هذا الكتاب لا يعنى بسرد سيرة ذاتية عن الرموز والشخصيات التي وردت ولكنه يعنى في الأصل المواقف التي تعرضت لها هذه الشخصية وإن ورد ذكر لجوانب الحياة فهو بالقدر الذي يفسر مرجعية اتخاذ القرار وإدارة الأزمة فهو بالتالي ليس سيرة ذاتية أو ترجمة لقصة حياة أو رأى ثابت لمجمل وجود هذه الشخصية في السلطة أو القدرة على اتخاذ القرار ولا يوجد سابق معاملة خاصة أو عامة مع هذا الشخصيات للإيحاء برأي مسبق ولكنه الالتزام بخط واضح وصريح وهو أن المحور الأساسي هو الموقف أو الأزمة وكيف أدارت هذه الشخصية تلك الأزمة مما أدى إلى نهايتها بهذا الشكل.
