ولد كيمرلنغ عام 1939 في رومانيا، وهاجر إلى إسرائيل عام 1952، في سن تكون فيها اللبنات المهمة والأساسية لهوية المرء قد تكونت، ولدى وصوله إلى إسرائيل مع أبويه، واجه، مثل باقي اليهود الذين قدموا من الدول العربية أو شرق أوروبا وغيرها من دول خارج «المركزية الأوروبية»، مراحل الأسرلة، التي كان يتعين على كل واحد منهم المرور بها، واهمها الوضع في مخيمات استيعاب تسمى إسرائيليا (المعبراه) لتسهيل اندماجهم في ما بعد في مجتمع يبنى على أسس غربية (1939-2007): عالِم اجتماع روماني.
هاجر إلى فلسطين المحتلة عام 1952.

يعيد هذا الكتاب النظر في رواية بناء "المجتمع الإسرائيلي"، مجتمع المهاجرين المستعمرين الذي أنشىء بالقوة في فلسطين. وإذ لم يكن خافياً على المتابعين مدى التناقضات الإثنية والثقافية والطبقية في المجتمع المذكور، فإنّ هذا الكتاب إذْ يعيد الرواية يقدّم إضافاتٍ أساسيّة وإضاءاتٍ عديدةً تكشف حقائق الصورة الفسيفسائية التي تكوّنت قسراً وبالتدريج مع كل موجة مهاجرين منذ بدايات الهجرة حتى اليوم، كما يرصد التغيّرات العميقة التي شهدها "المجتمع الإسرائيلي" في العقود الثلاثة الأخيرة، ويرسم اتجاهات للتطورات المحتملة في المستقبل، متحدياً معظم المسلّمات السائدة في علوم المجتمع، بخصوص الاحتلال الاستيطاني الإسرائيلي. كل هذا من منظورٍ تحليلي نقدي يقوم به من الداخل عالم اجتماع مرموق.
