منذ "ألف ليلة وليلة" وحتى كتابة هذه السطور تشغل المرأة وعلاقتها بالرجل والمحيط موضوعة أثيرة للكثير من الأعمال السردية العربية الروائية، لا سيما تلك الصادرة عن نساء، فالمرأة/ الكاتبة هي الأقدر على التعبير عن بنات جنسها وهكذا بدت لنا رولا البلبيسي في جديدها الروائي "على عتبة حلم"، فإلى أي عالم روائي تريد أخذنا الكاتبة في روايتها؟ إلى عالم المرأة أم إلى عالم الرجل؟ وهل هو شبيه بالعالم الواقعي المعيش أم مفارق له؟ والجواب هو أنها تريد أخذنا إلى عالم الإثنان معاً (المرأة والرجل) لنعيش مع سطورها قصة حب رومانسية بطلها عاشقان، "فارس" و "ليلى"؛ ألتقيا صُدفة، أحبا بعضهما، فرقتهما الحياة، سنونٌ طوال، ثم عادا والتقيا، ليكتشف كل واحد منهما أنه لم يتحرر من الآخر، وأن الحب باق ما بقيت الحياة. الجديد في الرواية هو أن الكاتبة تشارك القارئ النهاية المحتملة ليراها كما يشاء سعيدة أو حزينة فكل النهايات مشروعة في الحب وهو ما اختتمت به العمل بقولها: "قد تنتهي هذه الرواية ولك عزيزي القارئ ،أن تختار، أن تتصور النهاية التي تفضلها، أو ترجحها، وأن تحتار، فكل النهايات ممكنة، وهناك دروب لا تنهار، وعندما تخط وحدك، بعقلك وقلبك، النهاية التي تفضلها، تنتهي بالنسبة لكَ هذه الرواية، ولكن... وهناك دائماً لكن، لمن يكره النهايات المفتوحة، ويفضل الفصل في الحكاية المطروحة، هناك نهاية أخرى، قد أكون تصورتها، وبالغت في رسم خطوط السعادة فوق لوحتها، ولكن...، لمَ لا...، لمَ لا تكون النهاية سعيدة؟ لمَ لا تكون النهاية متواضعة واقعية؟ ألا يكفينا ما تمتلئ به يومياتنا من أبواب مقفلة! هناك دائماً متسع لأمل...". بهذا الخطاب تخطو رولا البلبيسي خطوة واثقة ومغايرة في مسيرتها الروائية، تعكس خبرة سردية فنية تثبت حضورها رواية بعد أخرى، فاستطاعت كتابة نص روائي جميل، عن العلاقة الأزلية بين الـ "هي" والـ "هو" بتقنية تقترب من أدب الاعترافات، وبلغة سردية سلسة، رشيقة. مغلفة بشاعرية رقيقة، تصوغ فيها حكاية حب فيها الكثير من الأمل، ولم لا "هناك دائما" متسع لأمل".
