يصنف هذا الكتاب الذي ألفه المونسنيور سبستياني وصفاً للرحلات التي قان بها المؤلف إلى العراق في ذهابه إلى الهند سنة 1656 وفي طريق عودته إلى أوروبا بعد سنتين ثم في الرحلة الثانية سنة 1660 وفي إيابه سنة 1664, وما جاء في وصف هذه الرحلات يقع ضمن كتاب عنوانه "إيفادات إلى الهند الشرقية للمونسنيور سيبستاني" ويقع في مجلدين. والمؤلف هو الأب جوزييه دي سانتا ماريا الكرملي 1623-1689، المولود في إيطاليا في 21 شباط 1623. وقد انتدبته الرئاسة الكنسية للذهاب في مهمة رسمية إلى الهند بصفة مفتش رسولي لدراسة أحوال النصارى في منطقة الملبار. وكتاب سبستياني ليس رحلة استطلاعية بل هو مجموعة ذكريات لذلك فهو لا يذكر من مشاهداته إلا النزر اليسير، ويتسم الكتاب بنظرة دينية أو صوفية للأمور. وفي الرحلة الأولى يصف المؤلف استعداداته للسفر إلى بغداد عن طريق الموصل ويبدأ الكلام عن دخول العراق، كما يصف مكوثه في مدينة الموصل وسفره إلى بغداد، إذ يصف نهر دجلة الذي يمر بسور المدينة، ثم مكوثه في بغداد وسفره إلى البصرة. كما يرد في الكتاب أخبار متفرقة عن كومبرو أو (بندر عباس) وعن فارس، وفي وصفة للرحلة الثانية ويتحدث المؤلف عن السفر إلى ماردين ثم الموصل قبل دخوله إلى بغداد ومن ثم سفره إلى البصرة عبر نهر دجلة وفي البصرة يصف طبيعة الحياة والجو واكتظاظ البحر بالسفن القادمة من جميع الأقطار كما يروي قصة اعتقاله في العمارة وعودته إلى بلاده فيما بعد
