"فرونتينيوس" الموظف الروماني، الذي أفنى حياته في خدمة الدولة، والذي يفضل أمثاله حققت الإمبراطورية الرومانية منعة وسؤدداً على مدى مئات السنوات، كان قائداً عسكرياً ساهم في حملات عديدة في "غاليا" (70م) وبريطانيا (74-77م)، وجرمانيا (83م)، كذلك شغل مناصب حساسة في الإدارة المدنية، كمسؤول عن الامدادات المائية (منذ 97م)، حيث ألف كتاباً حول "التمديدات المائية في روما". وكتابه "خدع حربية" لاقى رواجاً كبيراً بين محبي الفن العسكري الروماني. وقد جمع في هذا الكتاب أمثلة حول كيفية تصرف القائد في مختلف الظروف الميدانية، وهذه المادة الواسعة، وثقها بعمق ومنطق تحت العناوين التالية: قبل واثناء وما بعد المعركة، أثناء الحصار، وأعمالاً حكيمة لقواد بارزين. كذلك نقابل كثير من النكات ويطلعنا "فرونتينيوس" على كثير من حوادث عصره، فيلقي عليها أضواء جديدة، لها أهمية بارزة في تعريفنا بالقرن الأول الميلادي. فنرجو أن تسهم هذه المادة بنقطة في بحر معركة التحرير.
