وُلد إدوار قلتة فلتس يوسف الخراط في 16 مارس 1926 في الإسكندرية لأب من أخميم في صعيد مصر، وأمّ من الطرانة غرب دلتا النيل، حصل على ليسانس في الحقوق عام 1946 من جامعة الاسكندرية.
عمل أثناء الدراسة عقب وفاة والده منذ عام 1943 ، شارك في الحركة الوطنية الثورية في الاسكندرية عام 1946، اعتقل في 15 مارس 1948 سنتين في معتقلي أبو قير والطور.
تزوج عام 1957 وله ولدان، وفي عام 1959 عمل في منظمة تضامن الشعوب الأفريقية - الآسيوية ثم في اتحاد الكتّاب الأفريقيين - الآسيويين حتى العام ،1983 وأشرف على تحرير مطبوعات سياسية وثقافية لهما.
سافر الى معظم بلدان أفريقيا وآسيا وأوروبا وأميركا في رحلات عمل.
شارك في إصدار مجلة "لوتس" للأدب الأفريقي - الآسيوي وفي تحريرها، وفي مجلة "غاليري 68" الطليعية، ومطبوعات لكل من منظمة التضامن الأفريقي - الآسيوي واتحاد الكتّاب الأفريقيين - الآسيويين.
ترجمت رواياته الى الانجليزية والفرنسية والإيطالية والألمانية والأسبانية

طُبُعتْ هذه الرواية للمرة الأولى عام 1987، وهي واحدة من الأعمال المظلومة في تاريخ ادوار الخراط الإبداعي، وتاريخنا النقدي. تقف هذه الرواية على ناصية العصر المملوكي، لتمسك بتلابيب شجرة الدّر و الملك الصالح في إيوانهم، وترصد عيون من يحومون حولهما من المماليك، أصحاب الطموحات الكبرى، وترصد متاهتهم في صحراء مصر العريضة، وفي صحراء أحلامهم التي ليس لها قرار، ولا آخر. تُضاف هذه الرواية إلى "السائرون نياما" لسعد مكاوي و "الزيني بركات" لجمال الغيطاني وغيرهما من الروايات القليلة التي تناولت تلك الحقبة الثرية من تاريخنا، لتنفل لنا هذا العبق المشحون بالسيوف، والعشق المستحيل. روايةٌ تفعل فعل السحر..لكاتبٍ يفعل فعل الرواد
