هذه مذكرات وخواطر رجل اتصف بدرجة عالية من الإخلاص والإيثار والجد, يحس المرء وهو يمر على عباراتها أن تحسين علي رجل مبدأ، متواضعاً وشجاعاً مارس العديد من المهمات العسكرية والإدارية، وتقلد مناصب علياً في الدولة من دون أن يسعى إليها. شارك في حرب البلقان كضابط في الجيش العثماني، ثم خاض مع القوات العثمانية معارك التصدي للقوات البريطانية التي احتلت العراق إبان الحرب العالمية الأولى. ثم التحق بالثورة العربية، وهو يعتبر واحداً من أبرز قادتها. وعندما عاد إلى العراق في مطلع الحكم الوطني تقلد مناصب إدارية متعددة، محافظاً ووزيراً ورئيساً للديوان الملكي ومديراً عاماً للأوقاف. إن هذه المذكرات ستشكل مصدراً أصيلاً لمعارك الثورة العربية ولأكثر من نصف قرن من تاريخ العراق الحديث، وستحتل مكانها المناسب في المكتبة العربية. صالح محمد العابد
