جمع السيد هبة الدين في حديثه عن هذه الرحلة بين المعلومات الإثنوجغرافية وبين العناصر الأدبية من خلال نقله صورة حية عن المجتمعات في المدن التي زارها ,وعن عادات السكان وتقاليدهم ونظمهم الاجتماعية وأحوالهم الاقتصادية ومستوياتهم الثقافية ,ووعيهم الديني. والحقيقة فإن هذه المعلومات كانت قد دٌونت في مطلع القرن العشرين , وهي مرحلة من أهم وأخطر المراحل التي مرت على المنطقة. فظهور مثل هذا الكتاب يزيل الغبار عن حقبة زمنية معقدة من تاريخ الخليج العربي والعالم الإسلامي . يركز السيد هبة الدين على بعض الجوانب الاقتصادية والسياسية من خلال حديثه عن بعض الأسر الحاكمة في منطقة الخليج , وطبيعة العلاقة بينهم وبين رعاياهم ,ويسجل ملاحظاته عن بعض الفرق الدينة كالصابئة والإسماعيلية , ويتحدث عن عبادات الهنود وهو بذلك يعطي لنا معلومات قيّمة في هذا الجانب . والحقيقة فإن الرحلة مصدر مهم للباحثين والمؤرخين لأنها أعطت وصفاً حقيقياً لثقافة الأنسان , وهي بذلك تغطي جانباً من حياة الشعوب التي زارها , لأنها تعتمد على مشاهداته اليومية التي وصلت إلينا على شكل مدوّنة رائعة السرد.
