اصاب العقل العربي تعب كبير وأصبح بين مد وجزر في موضوع الفتنة الكبرى التي مرت بالاسلام وأدت الى مقتل الخليفة الثالث عثمان بن عفان رضي الله عنه , فبعد أن كان الخلاف بين علي ومعاوية ثابتا تأريخا, اصبح هذا الخلاف ــ بقدرة قادر ــ بين علي وعمر, رضي الله عنهم, في وقتنا الحاظر او بمعنى اصح اصبح خلافا بين الشيعة والسنة, وأخذ الكتاب من هذين الفريقين يزيدون في النار لهيبا, فكان كل فريق منهم يبالغ في تبيان فضل وصواب صحابه من جهة, وخطأ خصمه من جهة اخرى, فأذا اراد هذا الكاتب او ذاك ان يظهر مناقب شخص او مثالبه, أستطاع ان يأتي منها بالشي الكثير, فأذا احب شخصا جعل كل اعماله مناقب واذا ابغضه جعل كل اعماله مثالب. سنمر في هذا الكتاب على جذور الفتنة الكبرى التي ادت الى هذا التباعد بين عمر وعلي رضي الله عنهما , محللين نصوص اعلام الفكر العربي ممن خاضوا في هذا الموضوع مثل علي الوردي وطه حسين ومحمد حسين هيكل وغيرهم . كتاب للكاتب العراقي رباح حسن الزيدان, من مواليد مدينة الموصل وله من العمر 24 عاماً.
