خليل تقي الدين (1906-1987) هو كاتب وصحافي ودبلوماسي لبناني ساهم تعدّد مشاربه في إثراء نتاجه الأدبي شكلاً ومضموناً.
فهو لم يكتف بكتابة الأدب، بل طمح أيضاً إلى تجديده من خلال مساهمته، إلى جانب االياس أبو شبكة وغيره من الأدباءعام 1930 ، بتأسيس 'عصبة العشرة'، وهي حركة أدبية مجدّدة شنّت حرباً ضروس على الأساليب القديمة المتحجرة.
من أعماله: "عشر قصص من صميم الحياة": تحوي أخبار رجال ونساء عرفهم ويروي قصة كلّ واحد منهم في أفراحهم الاعدام.

"...يقول خليل تقي الدين أنه لم يكتب قصة "الإعدام" التي تتصدر هذه المجموعة إلا بعد مخاض طويل. وإنه لم يكتبها لمجرد كتابة قصة بل لأنه كان يحس إحساساً قوياً إن حياة سابقة عاشها في زمن مضى انتهت بإعدامه على مشنقة. أين؟ في أي زمن؟ في أي بلاد؟ هو لا يدري، وكل ما يعرفه أنه كان مدفوعاً إلى التخفيف عن نفسه وتوسل الأدب إلى بلوغ هذه الغاية فكانت قصة الإعدام هي وسيلته الفضلى.
ويضيف الكاتب الكبير أنه عندما مسح القلم ووضع نقطة الخاتمة على آخر كلمة من كلمات القصة شعر كأنّ صخراً قد انزاح عن صدره واستراح كما تستريح الحبلى من ألم المخاض".
