الطفلة سعيدة بأنها ستشاهد البندر وشوارعه الفسيحة الجميلة ومبانيها المرتفعة العالية وتنظر إلى كل شئ تشاهده بسعادة والأب الملتاع يعد الدقائق والثواني طالباً من الله أن ترفضها الخوجاية ليعود بها إلى بلدته ثانية مؤنباً نفسه على السير وراء شحطات زوجته والتي لا تعرف كيف تحدث الآخرين حتى ابنتها الصغرى ضحت بها. اندفعت دموعه من حين لآخر وهو ينظر إليها من تحت تلافيف جلبابه مجففاً دموعه المنهمرة، ولشعوره بأنها ستفارقه بعد عدة دقائق أغدق عليها من عطفه بشراء حلوى وكل ما تهفو إليه نفسها وهي سعيدة فرحة وتعطيه المكافآة السخية بقبلاتها الصغيرة فيتحسس وجهها الناعم وتزداد الأمور تعقيداً...
