إثر هزيمة عام 1967م وانسحاب وحدتنا من على الحدود وقعنا في كمين إسرائيلي بعثر القوة بعد حدوث خسائر، في المساء وجدت نفسي ومعي خمسة من الجنود ولم نكن نعرف من سيناء إلا اسمها، ظللنا نسير ونتفادى العدو لمدة أربعة أسابيع ما بين العطش والجوع والشمس الحارقة ورغم هذا دخلنا في معركتين مع العدو أنزلنا بهم خسائر، عدنا إلى الضفة الغربية لقناة السويس، وبدأت ملحمة التدريب وحرب الاستنزاف التي حققنا فيها إنتصارت على العدو السادس من أكتوبر من عام 1973م كنت على رأس قوة عبرت القناة وتوغلت سبعة كيلومترات لتدمير المدرعات الإسرائلية ظلت المعارك بيننا ست ساعات أنجزنا مهمتنا بنجاح وسقط منا العديد من الشهداء والجرحى وكنت ضمن من أصابتهم جراح شديدة تذكرت بيت شعر لأحمد شوقي بك: ومانيل المطالب بالتمني ... ولكن تؤخذ الدنيا غلابا.
