يعرض الكتاب صوراً مشرقة من نضال أهل «تامازغا» ومقاومتهم وصمودهم في وجه المعتدين الطامعين في إخضاعهم والسطو على خيرات بلادهم بدءاً من ثورات الأمازيغ في العصر القديم، ضد الغزاة الظلمة، وانتهاءً بمشاركتهم الفعالة في مقاومة المسْتعمر الأوربي في العصر الحديث، مروراً بالفترة القروسطية. وقد خلص د. جميل حمداوي من تتبع ذلك الصمود والكفاح إلى أن «تاريخ الأمازيغيين تاريخ المقاومة والنضال»، من أجل الحرية والكرامة، ولاسيما ضد الرومان والوندال والبيزنطيين والأوربيين الجشعين الساعين إلى استعباد المستضعفين واستغلالهم ؛ تحقيقاً لمآربهم الضيقة، وتنفيذاً لمخططاتهم التوسعية. على أن ذلك لم يصرف الأمازيغيين عن الاحتفال بالعمران والفكر والأدب والإسهام في البناء الحضاري منذ أقدم العصور. وعليه، يغدو الكتاب ذا أهمية واضحة بالنسبة إلى الباحثين في التاريخ الأمازيغي، بشمال أفريقيا، وإلى مؤرخي المقاومة الإنسانية بصفة خاصة.
