ابن الشِّبل البغداديّ شاعر مشهور من شعراء العصر العباسي الثاني، تمتع بموهبة شعرية سامية، وطاقة فنية متدفقة، وقريحة فياضة بكثير من الأشعار الرائعة التي لفتت الأنظار إليه، ودوّنت اسمه في سجلّ الشعراء المجيدين.
وقد جُمعت أشعاره في ديوان شاع وذاع في عصره، إلا أنه ضاع ضمن ما ضاع من تراث أمتنا النّفيس، فقام صانع هذا الديوان بجمع ما نسب لابن الشبل البغداديّ من القصائد والقطع فبلغت (175) مقطعةً ونتفة شعرية، اشتملت على أزيد من سبع مئة بيت، رتبها على حروف المعجم، وخرّجها من مصادرها، وصنع لها فارس تقربها من الباحثين.
