في هذا الكتاب دراسات ثلاث، خصص لكل منها فصل منه، أما الأولى فموضوعها الفرنسي الدخيل في العامية اللبنانية، ويغلب عليها تفسير ما يعتري هذا الدخيل من تغييرات صوتية، وهو في طريقه من مهده إلى مستقره: اللغة الوافد إليها. وأما الثانية فعن النغمية، محصورة بالسكتة وسط الكلام، والوقف آخره، والتنغيم، وعن أثرها الدلالي في الجملة، وعما يترتب عليها من فروقات نحوية إعرابية. وأما الثالثة فهي رؤية لغوية حديثة، تنتظم آراء لم يكن لها أن ترى لولا الألسنية، بعضها في رسم العربية بما فيه من خلل دفع النحاة إلى الزلل في غير مسألة صوتية وتركيبية، وبعضها في طرائق الإعراب التي أخذها مربو اليوم عن مربي الأمس، ويعرضونها على مسامع من يعلمون، من دون أن يحيدوا عن طريق التبعية قيد أنملة.
