ان قصيدة البردة قد بزت الجميع شهرة, وسيرورة, ودوراناً على الألسنة, وفي المجالس والمحافل والمنتديات. فهي قصيدة جيدة ممتازة, وأشهر أسير القصائد في بابها, ومصدر الوحي والإلهام الكثير من القصائد التي أنشئت بعدها, بحيث كانت جل القصائد التي أبدعت بعدها تمثيلاً فنياً دقيقاً لها. بل لم تستطع جلها أن تفلت من نصيب تأثير البردة. وهذا الشرح لابن مقلاش هو الأثر الكامل الوحيد واليتيم ـ لهذا الرجل المغمور ـ الذي حفظه لنا القدر الرحيم من بين جملة أعمال هامة له هي اليوم محجوبة إن لم نقل: مفقودة؛ فهو الوثيقة الأساسية الموجودة التي تخلد ذكره, والعمل العلمي المتكامل الذي بإمكانه اليوم أن يساعدنا على رسم صورة واضحة له.
