بالنسبة للعمانيين، وخاصة أولئك الذين قذفت بهم الأقدار خارج الوطن الأم، قبل عام 1970 تحول ذلك الحلم، حُلم العودة، إلى هاجس.
هاجس يسكن كل عُماني مغترب تشتت في شتى بقاع الأرض سعياً وراء الرزق أو العلم أو بحثاً عن بعض الحرية، بقي حلم العودة عالقاً في أذهانهم، فمنهم من حقق حلمه ذلك، ومنهم من رحل ونقل حلمه إلى أبنائه، أو دوّنه في وصيته آملاً في أن يحتضن رفاته أرض الوطن ويتبارك بتحللّه في جوفها، بعد أن نبذه كل من يعيش على سطحها.
هنا، في هذا السرد الممزوج بالذكرى واللوعة والحُلم، سيلتقي القارئ مع عرض منبعه الوجدان لا أكثر، تاركاً عرض التحليلات السياسية لأحداث إنقلاب زنجبار في عام 1964 وتبعاته للمتخصصين والباحثين.
هذا الكتاب، معنيٌ بالتحديد برواية الجانب الإنساني لذلك الحدث الفاصل للإنسان العماني، في تلك البقعة من الأرض، وفي تلك الفترة من التاريخ، رواية تحاول الإقتراب من روح إنسان ذاك الزمان بكل آلامه وآماله، والتي غفل عنه أغلب الباحثين والكُتاب، وهم قلة، مقارنة بحجم الفجيعة والمجازر التي رافقت أحداث إنقلاب زنجبار.
ربما لأن العديد من هؤلاء هم من الأجانب وبالتالي يصعب عليهم لمس المشاعر الحقيقية للمآسي وحجم المعاناة التي تعرض لها ضحايا الإنقلاب.
