الهدف من هذه الدراسة هو محاولة إلقاء الضوء على القاص السوري "زكريا تامر" على اعتبار أنه واحد من أهم كتاب القصة القصيرة في الستينات والذي قيل فيه أنه من قمم الاتجاه التعبيري. وهذا وقد خلصت الدراسة إلى جملة من النتائج أهمها: لقد أضاءت الدراسة جوانب من حياة القاص، من خلال تتبعها لمجموعة الدراسات والمقالات المختلفة. كما بينت الدراسة أن مجموعات "زكريا تامر" القصصية تسير في خط واحد هو انسحاق الفرد (المثقف العربي) وتضاؤله، وانهزاميته أمام قوى قاهرة تتمثل بسيطرة المجتمع بعاداته، وتقاليده البالية، وطبقاته المتباينة وسلطة الأب، والقدر، والشرطة، ورجال الدين، والطبيعة وغيرها من مظاهر القمع.
وبالعودة لأقسام هذه الدراسة نجد أنها قد جاءت موزعة على تمهيد وثلاثة فصول: تناول المباحثة في التمهيد واقع القصة السورية بلمحة موجزة، وهدفها إضاءة جو الدراسة وتمكين القارئ من رصد موقع زكريا من خلال ذلك الواقع. وفي الفصل الأول قامت إلقاء الضوء على حياة القاص ووضحت رؤيته الفكرية، وذلك من خلال قراءتها للمقالات التي نشرها في عدد غير قليل من الدوريات الثقافية، والأدبية داخل الوطن العربي وخارجه.
أما الفصل الثاني فتناولت مضامين المجموعات القصصية الخمس، التي دارت حول موقف أبطاله من المجتمع، والمرأة، والمدينة، والتراث في ضوء الحياة السياسية، آخذة بعين الاعتبار أثر التيارات الأجنبية في رؤية القاص وأعماله ممثلة بغرائز كافكاً على وجه التحديد، كما تناولت في الفصل الثالث البناء الفني منطلقة من التحليل الجمالي لبنية القصة، في محاولة لتسليط الضوء على صورة الشخصية القصصية، وكيف عني زكريا برسمها رسماً دقيقاُ، عاكساً حالتها النفسية، ووصفها الاجتماعي، بلغى إيحائية، شعرية مكثفة، وفي حركة ضمن الزمان والمكان.
