يستقصي هذا الكتاب (العادات الشعبية بين السحر والجن والخرافة) لفارس خضر، تفاصيل دقيقة لأهم العادات والمعتقدات الشعبية الذائعة في الريف المصري والمنتشرة بمسميات متقاربة، تلك التي تتعلق باسترضاء الكائنات غير المنظورة، وهي طقوس عادة ما تدرج ضمن المعتقدات السحرية للجماعة الشعبية وذلك لاشتباكها من جهة مع بعض وسائل الطب الشعبي ومع بعض الممارسات السحرية من جهة أخرى. وتأتي هذه الطقوس السحرية الوقائية لدفع الضرر المحتمل حدوثه من جانب الكائنات غير المرئية لكنها في الغالب الأعم تكون لاسترضاء هذه الكائنات نتيجة تعرض أحد أفراد الجماعة لأمراض يعتقد أن لها طبيعة سحرية.
