يسعى هذا الكتاب لمناقشة بعض الظواهر ذات الحضور الفاعل في الشعر العربي قديمه وحديثه، من خلال مفاهيم حديثة وطروحات معاصرة تصف الإجراءات الأسلوبية التي يشكلها الشعراء للتعبير عن رؤاهم ومواقفهم مستندين في ذلك إلى تقنيات للكشف عن هذه الرؤى والمواقف، التي يختارون لها أساليب للتعبير تتناسب معها وتضع المتلقي أمام ضروب وألوان من الإجراءات التي تستثيره وتقوده إلى محاولة القراءة الفاعلة لا القراءة السلبية، وإنما يوضع المتلقي في مركز التقنيات التي يجترحها الشعراء. يشتغل الفصل الأول على الإستعارة التنافرية في نماذج من الشعر العربي المعاصر، أما الفصل الثاني فيقرأ ظواهر من الإنحراف الأسلوبي في شعر مجنون ليلى، كما تناول الفصل الثالث مسألة المتوقع واللامتوقع: دراسة في جمالية التلقي، من خلال نماذج تطبيقية على التناص والحذف وإيحائية اللغة وإستعمال اللغة العامية، أما الفصل الرابع فقد عالج الأسلوبية: الإتصال والتأثير وذلك على إعتبار أن الأسلوب إبداع من المنشئ وإسترجاع من المتلقي.
