تمثل مجموعتي “ماء” و”فيروز” الخطوة الأولى لولوج مريم جمعة عالم الثقافة والإبداع.. فقد شكلا لها غيمة ممطرة لطالما ارتوت منها لتنبت الجديد، تعود إليهما وتعايش شخوصهما فتكون لها ملهماً كلما بدأت عمل أدبي جديد، فيهما تجد نفسها.. البدايات.. “فيروز” و”ماء” حاولت فيهما – القاصة مريم – مزج وتحويل المشاهد من دلالات الأماكن إلى لحظات زمنية، قصص تبحث عن الحرية والانعتاق من قهر الإنسان في مجتمع مغلق، حاولت فيهما الغوص في عمق الذات الإنسانية حيث لا تكتفي بالوصف، بل أن تستحضر ذلك الغموض السحري لحث المتلقي على الاستمتاع والبحث في المفردات واللغة والحدث. ما يميز شخصيات المجموعة القصصية “ماء” هو قوتها النابعة من داخلها، رغم أنها مقهورة ومحاصرة من الخارج، فهي صادقة مع نفسها، وتعيش حياتها كما هي على مرأى من نفسها، ولكنها مختبئة، وتراقب العالم من الثقوب، وحركتها تسير في دوائر وانكسارات وقفزات لاهثة، في إطار مغلق، مزدحم بالأفكار والهواجس. ورغم ما تلاقيه في العالم إلا أن شخصيات المجموعة تحافظ على قيمها الاجتماعية، وارتباطها الشديد بالوطن وموروثه الشعبي والثقافي الشرقي.
