يناقش هذا الكتاب أثر الإعلام في خدمة قضايا المجتمع من خلال تشخيص الإحتياجات وطرح المعالجات الناجية... يعتبر مؤلف الكتاب أن الإعلام أصبح من أبرز أسلحة عصرنا الحالي، يستخدم في الحروب مثلما يستخدم في التنمية، ويستخدم في التنوير الفكري مثلما يستخدم في التضليل الإعلامي، فبرأيه أن المؤسسات الدولية تلجأ إلى سلاح العقل عبر نافذة الإعلام لكشف الكثير من بؤر الفساد والجريمة "وقد مثلت هذه المهمة الصحافة الإستقصائية متبعة خطوات مهنية ومستخدمة جميع أدوات البحث الإستقصائي لخيوط الجريمة أو أي نشاط إنساني آخر حتى بات الكثير يعول عليها بعيداً عن أجهزة الرقابة المختصة (...) وفي مثل هكذا توجه حيال الإعلام، فإن نظرية البعض أن "الإعلام يمثل صناعة العقول" أصبحت في العصر الحديث قضية مطروحة على بساط النقاش".
وفي ختام الدراسة يحث الكاتب على أن يكون هذا النوع من الصحافة الإستقصائية مرتكز على أسلوب ومنهج عمل محصناً بسياقات مهنية عصرية تتم مزاولته في غرف التحرير في المؤسسات الصحافية والإعلامية بشكل فاعل، وأن ينال اهتماماً استثنائياً من الجميع وأولها السلطات الرسمية، لإنه يخدم المجتمع وقضاياه الإجتماعية والإقتصادية، وهذا يستلزم أن يخضع الإعلاميون لبرنامج من التثقيف والتأهيل في قانونية ومهنية وصلاحية المواد المنشورة بعيداً عن أصحاب القرار السياسي الذين يسعون إلى تحويل صاحبة الجلالة إلى "صحافة منافقة" تابعة لسلطاتهم وتخدم أغراضهم...
