مع تكثيف أجهزة الدولة والجامعات ومراكز البحوث المتخصصة لجهودها لتشجيع الأفراد والشركات الوطنية للاستثمار في مجال الاستزراع السمكي بشكل خاص، والاستزراع لجميع الكائنات الحية المائية بشكل عام، وحيث إن المكتبة العربية تفتقر حاليًا إلى المراجع العربية العلمية والفنية التي يعتمد عليها في تطوير المزارع السمكية وإدارتها على أسس علمية سليمة تخدم هذا المجال؛ فقد تم إعداد هذا المؤلف بالاعتماد على ترجمة كتاب Commercial Fish Farming تأليف HEPHIER& PRUGININ (1981)، وكذلك بعض أجزاء كتاب Aquacultural Engineering تأليف W. FREDRICK (1977)، والجزء التدريبي لاستزراع أسماك المياه العذبة التابع للمنظمة العالمية للأغذية والزراعةFAO (1989, 1991)، وكذلك تم الاستعانة ببعض المراجع العربية في رصد ومكافحة التلوث البحري للنفط للدكتور أسامة محمد طه أبو الدهب (1994م)، ونشرات أكاديمية البحث العلمي والتكنولوجيا (1985م)، وكتاب "إنقاذ كوكبنا التحديات والآمال" (1992م) للعالم المصري الجليل الدكتور مصطفى كمال طلبة، وبعض نشرات الهيئة العامة لتنمية الثروة السمكية، والنشرات الخاصة بوزارة الزراعة ومركز البحوث الزراعية في تقديرات الدخل القومي خلال الفترة من 1982م إلى 1997م.
وقد اشتمل هذا الكتاب على جزء تم فيه استعراض كيفية التعرف على الأسماك من الشكل والعائلة، وكذلك على عمليات استزراع الأسماك وتربيتها من اختيار الأرض وإقامة الأحواض وإدارتها وبعض أنواع الأسماك، وطرق الاستزراع العامة، وطرق التفريخ للأسماك سواء كانت طبيعية أم موجهة، وكذلك يوجد جزء آخر من هذا الكتاب يحمل نفس العنوان وتم فيه استعراض كيفية التعرف على أمراض الأسماك وكيفية مواجهتها، التقنيات والمعدات، التسميد والإخصاب وأيضًا التعرف على مصادر المياه المتوفرة في مصر، والمصايد المتاحة، ومدى متطابقة هذه المصائد والمياه لشروط الأمان من التلوث، وكذلك التعرف على أهم مصادر التلوث الممكن حدوثها، سواء في مصر خاصة والدول العربية بشكل عام. وأيضًا هناك جزء تم استعراض كيفية إجراء دراسات الجدوى الاقتصادية للمزارع السمكية. ونأمل أن يساهم هذا الجهد المتواضع مع غيره من المؤلفات الأخرى المنتظر تواجدها في المكتبة العربية في إرشاد الباحث بشكل خاص، والمربي بشكل عام.
