"خدمة الجماعة" أسلوب من أساليب مهنة الخدمة الاجتماعية. بدأت خدمة الجماعة تتطور في إطار المجتمع المتغير منذ حملت الثورة الصناعية في الغرب نزوح ريفي إلى المدن، وهجرة واسعة النطاق، وأخذت الخدمات تختلف بين من يعطي هذه الخدمات ومن يتلقاها. ومع ظهور الخدمات الجديدة تطورت الفكرة، وما لبثت أن تحولت إلى مفهوم عملي يستند إلى مبدأ مساعدة الذات، ذات الطبيعة الجماعية، وفي السنوات التي تلت العشرينات من القرن العشرين أخذ هذا المفهوم يتطور كأسلوب بفعل الجهد الحسي للجماعة في أواسط العاملين في مختلف المهن، ولا سيما في حقل التربية، وعلم النفس، والخدمة الاجتماعية. وخلال الستينات، اعتمد كأسلوب من أساليب مهنة الخدمة الاجتماعية. هذا الكتاب يتحدث عن مهام الأخصائى الاجتماعي في تنمية الشخصية وقيام المجتمع الديمقراطي، والإدراك الواعي لسلوك الأفراد والجماعات بهدف الوقاية من التخلف العقلي. يركّز الكتاب على كيفية تطور أسلوب "خدمة الجماعة" عالمياً وفي لبنان خاصة، وعلى دور الأخصائي الاجتماعي في كافة ميادين خدمة الجماعة. إضافة إلى الأعمال التطبيقية ومشاغل العمل المطروحة في الجزء الأخير من هذا الكتاب والتي تساعد الطالب أو المدرب على تطبيق الأساليب والنظريات الحديثة المتطورة في خدمة الجماعة. كتاب يهم الباحث والطالب في الجامعة وفي كلية العلوم الاجتماعية، كما يحتاج إليه الأخصائيون والمرشدون الاجتماعيون، وطلاب علم النفس والاجتماع في أبحاثهم ودراساتهم، وفي حقول أعمالهم.
