عندما دخلت السفن البرتغالية بقيادة القائد المعروف ببطشه وجبروته (أفونسو دا البوكيرك)، عام 1507م، حيث جاء لتنفيذ خطة الاستيلاء على أهم منافذ التجارة البحرية الدولية في تلك العصور، ألا وهي جزيرة (هرمز) ومملكتها واسعة الثراء في المنطقة آنذاك.
حكايات وحكايات معظمها يذكر لأول مرة، ويتم نشرها بهذه الصيغة، وهي تشكل انعطافات هامة في منطقة الخليج من حيث بداية اللقاء بالأوروبيين بعد عصر النهضة، ومحاولة التبشير المسيحي بالكاثوليكية أو ترسيخ مبدأ الهيمنة والسيطرة البحرية من جانب قطب واحد ضد الآخرين.
وإذا كان البحث في تاريخ الخليج العربي يبدو سهلاً وميسوراً بعد القرن السابع عشر حتى القرن العشرين وذلك بسبب وجود السجلات والوثائق المنظمة والمطبوعة منذ دخلت الشركات الأوروبية فيما عرف بـ"شركات الهند الشرقية" وأولها كانت الإنجليزية، فإن استظهار الأحداث التاريخية والحكايات الغربية والطريفة، في الفترة البرتغالية، بين القرنين السادس عشر والسابع عشر، تعد مهمة أشبه بالبحث عن إبرة في كومة قش. من هنا جاءت هذه المحاولة لسبر أغوار تلك الأزمان البعيدة..
تلك الأزمان البعيدة، والتي مضى عليها حتى الآن منذ وصول البرتغاليين بأساطيلهم الحربية إلى ساحل عمان وهرمز في صيف عام 1507م، ما يقارب الخمسمائة عام، ولا أظن بأن الجامعات ومراكز البحوث التاريخية في خليجنا قد وضعت في أجندتها، بعد قضية الاحتفال بذكرى ذلك اللقاء والصدام الحضاري (العسكري والسياسي والثقافي)، ولو أنه كان صداماً مأساوياً، إلا أن الذكرى تستحق من الجميع الوقوف عندها بشكل احتفالية، تبين وتوضح للناس بجلاء ما لم ينشر بعد عن فترة الغزو البرتغالي تلك لسواحل عمان والخليج العربي، وتبين بالتحليل والنقد، و بنظرة حديثة، أهمية صدام الحضارات، للأسف وليس حوار الحضارات، في تلك الحقبة من تاريخ المنطقة، مع الحرص على تصحيح كل الأخطاء التي ارتكبت في كتابة تاريخ تلك المرحلة مما نشر حتى الآن.
