"كنت قد مارست الكتابة، كتابة هذا النص "حمَام القرماني" قبل ما يقارب الخمس سنوات. وكان السؤال: ماذا فعلت بما كتبت؟ وجاء الجواب، بأن الزمن المناسب عندما يحضر سوف يكون لهذا النص مكان تستقر فيه بعض من معانيه وحروفه على صفحات الورق في كتاب مطبوع". بهذا التقديم تطلَ "نجوى الزهار" على القارئ العربي بجديدها "حمَام القرماني" بما يحيل إليه العنوان من تاريخ دمشق أيام الزمن الجميل بأعرافه وتقاليده وناسه الطيبون، وبهذا المعنى نحن في "حمام القرماني" لسنا أمام حكاية رئيسية لشخصيات تلعب دور البطولة في الرواية، بل نحن أمام حكايات فرعية يجمع بينها مكان واحد وتاريخ واحد، تنهض عبر وحدات سردية متعاقبة، متجاورة، تضيء من خلالها الكاتبة نمط العيش في مكان معين هو دمشق تكشف عن الدور الذي يلعبه المكان في وعي الناس وحياتهم اليومية، بمعنى من المعاني، فترسم لنا لوحات مشهدية عن الحارة وأهلها فذاك "أبو رشيد اللحام" يقف أمام باب دكانه، ينظر إلى الخرفان"، وتلك "الجارة نوال، تدق الباب، حاملة معها طبقاً من الكبة المقلية" فتضحك هيفاء "كبة في الصباح"، وها هن النسوة يتحضرن للذهاب إلى "حمام السوق في منتصف الجارة" وهناك في الحمام يحلو الكلام وتفضفض النساء همومهن ويشاركن مشاعر إنسانية سامية تفتقدها الحياة المعاصرة، عبرت عنها الكاتبة أجمل تعبير عبر سلاسة اللغة وطلاوتها، واستخدام المحكية وتسمية الأشياء بأسمائها في لغة الحوار، من موقع المشارك فيها من جهة، والعالم من جهة ثانية، فأهل مكة أدرى بشعابها، فأضاقت إلى متعة السرد متعة التذكر.
