في روايته الثانية «عالم المندل»، يقف أحمد عبد اللطيف على حافة عوالم متشابكة، ما بين الفانتازيا والواقعية والحلم، مشيداً عالماً خاصاً ممتلئاً بأشخاص وخيالات وأشباح وأصوات وهمهمات، وتخيّل حكايات وأحداث وبناء تصورات وتفسيرات، كأنه "عالم المندل". تبدو الرواية في مجملها مثل لعبة سردية، تدور في 25 ساعة، وتبدأ قبل زفاف بطلتها بليلة واحدة، فتستعيد بذلك حياتها كاملة، وتتخذ، لأول مرة في حياتها، قراراً تثور به على موروثاتها الاجتماعية. أثناء ذلك، تطرح الرواية أسئلة عميقة حول المرأة، الجمال، الوجود، الأماكن، وترصد البعد النفسي للبطلة، مستندة إلى الموروث الذي تتجادل معه، وتهدمه. غير أن السؤال الأكثر أهمية الذي تطرحه الرواية، والذي يعتبر فكرة العمل التي تلتف حولها الأفكار الأخرى: ماذا لو تغير ما يميز النساء وأصبحن بما يميز الرجال؟! هنا، وبهذه الفكرة الغريبة والجريئة، يختزل المؤلف التراث الجمعي النسائي في بطلته، من خلال حبكة روائية مضفرة من قصص وحكايات أنثوية تطعم العمل وتثريه، طارحاً أسئلة دون تقديم إجابات معدة سلفاً، في إطار سردي سريع الإيقاع، ولغة ناعمة ومتمردة في آن واحد.
