ليست الكشفية علماً غامضاً أو صعباً، فإذا ما نظرت إليها على ضوء واقعها فإنك لا ترى فيها أكثر من لعبة مليئة بالحركة والحياة، وأن لها في الوقت ذاته قيمة تربوية كبرى، وهي، كعمل الخير، ينفع الذي يقوم به بقدر ما ينفع الذي يتلقاه.
ولقد أطلقت كلمة "الكشفية" على نوع من النظام يهدف، بألعابه، إلى إعداد الفتيان والفتيات لإكتساب تربية مدنية تكمل التربية المدرسية، فإن الجنسين بحاجة إلى الإعداد لذي يتيحه لهما "الكشافون" و"المرشدات"، هاتان الفئتان اللتان تعملان بوحي مبادئ واحدة وإن اختلفنا في التفاصيل.
وليس هذا الكتاب بمثابة موجز عن الحركة الكشفية، بل إنني عنيت فيه بإبراز بعض الطرق التي أثبتت التجارب نفعها وصلاحها للإستعمال.
ويلاحظ القارئ أنني لم أتقيد كثيراً بالتفاصيل، وذلك حرصاً على أن يتناول كل قائد هذه الطرق وفقاً لمزاجه وتبعاً للأوضاع المحلية التي تعيش فيها.
