يعتبر كتاب " معتقدات مظلمة " حلقة إضافية في الدراسات النقدية حول اتلوراة ، مما أثاره من جدليات تاريخية وأركيولوجية أكدت في الفترة الأخيرة من القرن العشرين وبدايات القرن الحالي أن هذا الحدث برمته هو وهم، وباطل ومنسوج من مخيلة كتاب لسيرة شعبية أو لقصص في ذاكرة الشعوب آنذاك ، وقدم لنا الكاتب أيوب الحجلي هذه الدراسة عن بعض الخلل في نسج قصص التوراة ، مع ذكر للتلمود المقدس ، والذي لم يتوفر في المكتبة العربية بشكله الكامل ، ولعاليمه السرية التي سيطرت على العالم حقبة من الزمن ولا تزال مخالب الشر هذه تشد قبضتها على الحضارة البشرية جمعاء ، مع ذكر لبعض الاحداث الدموية المرعبة التي افتعلها حاخامات التلمود ، فعمل لوضع كتاب يجمع بعضاً من التلمود المقدس ، لشرحه ولكشف النقاب عن تعاليمه السرية السوداء ، بجهود قدمها لنا راغباً بتاليف كتاب رديف للدراسات والجهود السابقة للباحثين عن هذه التعاليم وخباياها .
