تأتي أهمية الحرص على جمع الروايات المختلفة للسيرة الهلالية من أفواه شعرائها ورواتها، وبالأخص في هذه اللحظة التاريخية التي تشهد انحساراً للسيرة الهلالية والمأثورات الشعبية أمام المد الحضاري الذي تشهده البيئات العربية، كما أن السيرة الهلالية مهددة بالإنقراض إذا مات رواتها، فأغلب أبنائهم لم يتعلموها، ومن تعلمها ليس بإتقان من سبقه، وهذه سمة من سمات تداول المأثور الشفاهي. والشاعر الشعبي فتحي عوض سلام هو شاعر هذه الرواية، أحد أهم شعراء السيرة الهلالية في دلتا مصر، وتأتي أهميته عبر وعيه بقوانين السيرة ومقدرته على الإلمام بأحداثها وسمات شخوصها، فهو شاعر متجول، لا مهنة له سوى إنشاد السيرة، وشاعر متجول هي المهنة المدونة في بطاقة هويته. وتحكي أحداث هذا النص عن حياة قبيلة بني هلال منذ لحظة ميلاد (أبو زيد الهلالي سلامة) بطل السيرة، ورحلة القبيلة من نجد إلى تونس (الغرب)؛ حيث طاب لها المقام، ويتم سرد هذه الأحداث في حلقات قصصية تتداخل فيما بينهما.
