تعليم الكبار هو الموجة القادمة التى ستجتاح كل أشكال التعليم خلال السنوات القليلة القادمة فالثورة المعرفية وثورة وسائل الاتصال وتكنولوجيا المعلومات وازدياد الطلب الاجتماعى على التعليم وعجز المؤسسات التعليمية التقليدية عن مواجهة هذا الطلب وعن تلبية الاحتياجات المتغيرة والسريعة لسوق العمل وارتفاع معدلات البطالة كل هذه العوامل وغيرها كانت من وراء يروز تعليم الكبار ليكون الصيغة التى يتوافر فيها ولها القدرة على التجاوب السريع مع هذه المتغيرات فالمرونة التى يتمتع بها تعليم الكبار والاستجابة لمختلف المواقف والتوظيف الفعال لأحدث ما وصلت إليه تكنولوجيا التعليم والتعلم من مستحدثات جعلت التعليم ممكنا ويسيرا فى أى وقت وفى كل مكان وبالتالى شاعت برامج الجامعات الافتراضية والتعلم الالكترونى والتعليم المفتوح لتتيح لكل من يرغب فى مواصلة التعليم أو لمن يريد فرصة ثانية أو من يودون الاستزادة من المعرفة أو تغيير مسارهم المهنى أو تنمية مهاراتهم وتحديث مؤهلاتهم . وهذا يؤكد أن تعليم الكبار صار أكثر اتساعا وشمولا وعلى الباحث فى هذا المجال أن يتوقع كل شىء فتعليم الكبار صار أشبه بمن يهبط بمظلة على غاية إستوائية يسحره جمالها من عل ولكن عليه بعد ذلك أ يجد طريقة وسط أغصانها المتشابكة ودروبها المتعرجة المليئة بالأفاعى والعقارب فى حشائشه وبين شجيراته ومن ثم عالج من أهم مجالات تعليم الكبار خطورة فى هذه الأيام وهما التربية البيئية والثقافة السياسية ثم تأتى الدراسة الأخيرة حول المشكلة الأبدية لتعليم الكبار فى مصر وهى قضية التمويل ليطرح من خلالها عددا من البدائل غير التقليدية لحل مشكلة نقص الموارد المالية المخصصة لتعليم الكبار فى مصر
