جورج ويلهلم فريدريش هيغل (بالألمانية: Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel) (ولد 27 أغسطس 1770 — 14 نوفمبر 1831) فيلسوف ألماني ولد في شتوتغارت، فورتيمبيرغ، في المنطقة الجنوبية الغربيةِ من ألمانيا.
يعتبر هيغل أحد أهم الفلاسفة الألمان حيث يعتبر أهم مؤسسي حركة الفلسفة المثالية الألمانية في أوائل القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي.

لا شك أن "ظاهريات الروح" كتاب فريد من بين الكتب الفلسفية، ولهذا قيل إنه إذا كان كتاب "نقد العقل الخالص" لكانط هو أعظم بحث فلسفي ظهر في القرن الثامن عشر فإن "ظاهريات الروح" لهيجل هو أعظم بحث فلسفي ظهر في القرن التاسع عشر: بل إن من الباحثين من يقارن بينه وبين بعض الأعمال الكلاسيكية الكبرى مثل "فاوست" لجوته، والكوميديا الإلهية لدانتي: كما يقارنون ما بذله هيجل من جهد في هذا الكتاب بجهود اسبنوزا في كتاب "الأخلاق"، أو أرسطو في كتاب "الميتافيزيقا". فلا غرو أن يطلق عليه الباحثون اسم "سفر تكوين الروح" حيث يتتبع ظهورها كروح فردي، ويسير مع مراحل تطورها إلى أن تلتحم بالروح المطلق منقسمة على نفسها أثناء هذا التطور، إلا أنها تعود إلى التوافق من جديد "فاليد التي أحدثت الجرح، هي نفسها التي تداويه" كما يقول هيجل. كتاب لا غنى عنه لأي مثقف!.
