... أهرب منك يا عذبة ، في الوقت الذي يدفعني قلبي للانطلاق نحوك ، لأمسك بك وأحضنك، وألتصق بك، وأشمُّ رائحتك المعطرة بعبق أعشاب الشومر والزعتر وشذى رائحة أشجار البلوط! غابات بكر، لم يمسسها أحد ، وفي الوديان كانت ينابيع عذبة نقية، ولهذا سمُّوك عذبة. لم يكن شعرك كغابة الكرمل منعثلاً، بل كان أملس كالحرير ، منساباً على ظهرك كالشلال، عيناك خضراوان، بلون غابات الكرمل… أحببتك يا عذبة، وتخيلتك جوهرة متلألئة في غابات الكرمل، فيك جاذبية مغناطيس، يشدني بلذّة نحوك، فأجدني أدور حولك، كما تدور النحلة فوق زهرتها، تتمتع بمشاهدتها، تقترب منها، تحطُّ على بتلاتها الملونة، التي تشبه فستانك المزركش، تشمُّ رائحتها، تقبّل المتكات والمياسم المزينة لقلب الزهرة، والتي تشبه شفتيك المكتنزتين رقة وعذوبة، ثم تمتص رحيقها المعطر المحلى، هكذا كنت أتحسسك، وأنا ألعب معك في تلك الأيام… ...................كانت رائحة زهر الحمضيات، تعبق يافا، وتعطر شاطئ بحر فلسطين، وعندما عينت أمريكا قنصلاً لأول مرة في يافا، عزمه الحاج حسن على داره القريبة من بيارات البرتقال، وبعدما استراح الكولونيل روك، ووضع رجلاً فوق رجل، وانشرح صدره في ذاك البيت، الذي قعدَته تفتح النفس، قال للحاج حسن يومها : - لماذا تكلف نفسك يا حاج حسن، وترشّ البيت بعطور الحمضيات؟ فقال الحاج : نحن لم نرش البيت بالعطور يا كولونيل روك! هذه روائح برتقال يافا، تهب على بيتنا مع نسيم البحر… هذه هي يافا يا كولونيل! معطرة برائحة زهر البرتقال، مغسولة بأمواج البحر… ولكن الكولونيل روك الذي كان يعتقد أنه يعرف كل شيء في المنطقة، صمت وانكمش أمام عطور يافا البرتقالية….....
