ثمة أسئلة تطرح نفسها، اليوم، بالضرورة، على المسلمين الذين يتعاطون الإسلام من منظور ثقافاتهم المتباينة... وهي أسئلة مطروحة في ظلال السؤال الكبير: لماذا تخلف المسلمون وتقدم غيرهم؟! هل لأن الثقافة الإسلامية مثقلة بمعوقات التقد؟! هل لأن بنية الثقافة الإسلامية مضادة للحداثة؟! ما الذي يجعل تعاطي حركات الإسلام السياسي، مع الحداثة، تعاطياً انفصامياً مع الواقع. فالبعض (المعتدل) يقبل بعض الحداثة ويرفض بعضها، والبعض الآخر (المتطرف) يرفضها جملة وتفصيلاً ويكفرها، ويعلن حرب الإلغاء؟! هل يمتح الإسلام السياسي، بالإجمال، من ذات النزعة الشمولية الاستبدادية الطافحة في كل برامج الحركات الإسلامية وأدبياتها، مع مراعاة الفروق الظاهرية (في الممارسة) بين جماعات التطرف التي تمارس عنفاً عارياً وجماعات "الاعتدال" التي تتزيا بتقية سياسية، تظهر التسليم بشروط اللغبة الديموقراطية سبيلاً سلمياً للوصول إلى السلطة؟! هل تستقيم ضروريات عصر الثورة المعلوماتية مع أساليب تفكير الأيديولوجيات التوتاليتارية (الشمولية أو الكليانية) المنقرضة، وطريقة نظرتها الأحادية للحياة؟ بمعنى: هل ستقيم الدولة المدنية الحديثة، دولة المجتمع المدني، المشروطة بالديمقراطية بمعناها الحديث، المتعارف عليه كونياً، مع مشاريع الإسلام السياسي الشمولي بأفكاره الكليانية وأدبياته المتعصبة وشعاراته الفاشية وطوباويته الخائبة في إيران والسودان وأفغانستان؟!
