في تلك الليلة والصمت يكتنف المكان، سمعت "مايا" صوت روحها يتحدث إليها، فأحست لأول مرة بنبض الحياة، وشعرت عندئذ بأن روحها ساطعةً كالشمس وخفيفةً كالنسيم." عاشت "مايا" سنوات عمرها تحلم بحياة مثالية؛ حياةٍ يملؤها الحب ويظللها النجاح وتكتنفها المتعة. لذا، فقد سعت إلى تحقيق ذاتها عن طريق سعيها وراء الرجال والمال، وعندما فشلت، تصورت أنها ستجد سلواها في الشيكولاتة. لكن، كل هذا لم يُخَلِّف لديها سوى الإحساس بالفراغ والضياع، ثم تلعب الصدفة دورها فتُلقي في طريق "مايا" بامرأة ساحرة وغامضة تُغَيِّر مجرى حياتها تمامًا لتبدأ "مايا" رحلة البحث عن الذات وتكتشف فيها كل ما كانت تفتقده في حياتها. تعرض الرواية قصة عن الحب والشجاعة والمعرفة، وتكشف لنا ما قد يحدث عندما يفتح الإنسان قلبه لتسكنه الأسرار الروحية في هذا العالم المادي. إنها قصةُ عن مرحلة تحوُّل مَرّت بها البطلة توضح لكل امرأة كيف تفوز بقلب شريك حياتها دون أن تخسر هي نفسها، وكيف تجد العمل الذي يهواه قلبها وتَقَرّ به عينها وكيف تستمتع بالشيكولاتة فتصبح مصدرًا يُدْخِل عليها الشعور بالبهجة وليس الشعور بالألم من تأنيب الذات.
