يختلف الصم وضعاف السمع عن العاديين في كثير من الخصائص والقدرات والإمكانيات والصفات، وتكييف التدريس ليناسب هذه الفئة من فئات التربية الخاصة يعتبر أحد الأهداف الرئيسة للتربية الخاصة. من هنا كان هذا الكتاب الذي يتضمن التدريس لذوي الإعاقة السمعية ويهدف إلى تعريف معلمي الإعاقة السمعية والعاملين في مجال تعليم الصم وضعاف السمع وكذلك الطلاب المعلمين الذين يتم إعدادهم كمعلمين للمعاقين سمعياً بعملية التدريس لذوي الإعاقة السمعية حتى يكون دليلاً ومرجعاً لهم. وقد تناول الكتاب مفاهيم التدريس الأساسية لذوي الإعاقة السمعية وكذلك مبادئ التدريس ومكوناته الأساسية لهذه الفئة ومعايير تعليم الصم وضعاف السمع والأسس والمرتكزات التي يبنى عليها تدريس ذوي الإعاقة السمعية، ثم ينتقل الكتاب إلى جانب مهم من جوانب التدريس وهو التواصل مع المعاقين سميعاً داخل قاعات الدراسة ثم تناول الكتاب تخطيط التدريس ليناسب المعاقين سمعياً والمهارات اللازمة للتخطيط الجيد، وعرض الكتاب لبعض المهارات التدريسية التي ينبغي لمعلم الإعاقة السمعية اتقانها. وفي سياق متصل تناول الكتاب جانباً مهما يخص معلم الإعاقة السمعية وهو كيفية إدارة صفوف المعاقين سمعياً والقواعد الأساسية التي ينبغي أن يراعيها معلم الإعاقة السمعية، ثم عرض الكتاب لبعض طرق واستراتيجيات التدريس وتكييفها لكي تناسبهم. وأخيراً تناول الكتاب تقويم تعلم المعاقين سمعياً وأساليبه المختلفة وتكييف هذه الأساليب لتناسب طبيعتهم. وأخيراً هناك أمل أن يستجيب هذا الكتاب لحاجات الأفراد الذين يتعاملون مع الصم وضعاف السمع سواء في التعليم أو التأهيل ويساعدهم على تجاوز المشكلات التي تواجههم عند التدريس للمعوقين سمعياً.
