حقق رشدي راشد كتب علماء العرب الرياضيين وترجم المخطوطات العربية إلى الفرنسية وشرحها تاريخيًا وفلسفيًا ورياضيًا وعلق عليها . كما أعاد إحياء تراث ابن الهيثم والخوارزمي والكِندي وعمر الخيام والسموأل وقدم عنهم حقائق تاريخية لم تكن معروفة من قبل.

إنّ أعمال الخيّام في الرياضيات طبعت تاريخَ هذا العلم. فلقد صاغ للمرة الأولى في مؤلفاته نظريّة هندسية للمعادلات الجبرية، وشكّلت هذه الصياغة بدايةً لفرع جديد من الرياضيات هو فرع الهندسة الجبرية. وفي هذه المؤلفات نجد أيضاً أولَ مراجعة «حديثة» لنظرية النِسَب، كما نجد إسهاماً أساسياً في نظرية المتوازيات. ينجح هذا الكتاب، من خلال المقارنة بدقّة بين حصيلة أعمال ديكارت وتلك التي أنجزها الخيّام في القرن الحادي عشر، في بيان أن هندسة ديكارت تشكّل ـ في جانب من جوانبها ـ إكمالاً للتقليد الذي اختطّه الخيّام والطوسي، وأن هذا الإكمال أطلق تقليداً آخر مصدره بالطبع كتاب ديكارت، إلا أنّ ركائزه موجودة في أعمال من أتى بعده. إن قراءة «هندسة» ديكارت تستدعي النظر باتجاه المصدر، نحو الطوسي والخيّام. فهو ـ ككل الأعمال المجدِّدة ـ لم ينبع من لا شيء، بل هو استيعابٌ للتقاليد التي ورثها، وتكييفٌ جديد لها، مكّنا مؤلفه من رؤية عالم آخر لم تنظرْهُ من قبلُ عينٌ.
